The Program

A program is a group of related projects managed in a coordinated manner to obtain benefits not available from managing them individually. Organizations with mature program management are far more successful than those without it. Often, the intention of the program is improving an organization's performance.

The Program Manager

The program manager can be thought of as a “super” project manager. His or her role is mainly operational, as this person is responsible for the planning and overseeing of successful delivery of the program’s product. That is, the new capability and software application.

Although knowledge of the business is important, there is more stress on his or her program management skills. The program manager must have practical experience of having been a project manger for large and complex initiatives.
